Emergencies handled by the 108 ambulances in Coimbatore region, comprising 12 districts, saw 56.36 % increase on Deepavali day, mainly due to a significant rise in road traffic accidents.
50.64 % jump in Coimbatore districtAll the emergencies handled in Coimbatore district on Deepavali day stood at 348, registering a 50.64 % jump from an average of 231 emergencies on normal days.
Road traffic accident related emergencies handled in the district on Deepavali day were 126 as against 42 on normal days.
There were nine cases of fire/burns related emergencies handled by 108 ambulances on Deepavali day, including that of a three-year-old child from Sulur, who suffered burns on chest caused by fireworks.
Statewide, 108 ambulances handled 7,463 emergencies on Deepavali day as against an average of 5,051 on normal days.
