The Delhi High Court on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) sought clarity from Meta over its policy governing access to its Rights Manager tool, after concerns were raised that fraudulent actors have allegedly exploited the platform’s copyright-protection mechanism to target original content. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani directed Meta to place on record its norms and eligibility criteria for granting access to Rights Manager, along with the grounds on which applications for the tool may be rejected. Applied thriceThe counsel submitted that his client had applied for access to Rights Manager on three occasions but was rejected without being given any specific reason. Meta also stated that Mr. Kumar’s accounts had not been suspended and continued to remain accessible. Justice Bhambhani observed that concerns surrounding the misuse of copyright enforcement mechanisms appeared to be recurring across cases involving content creators and warranted closer examination.
