A contingent of 44 scientists from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) visited the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Wednesday as part of the Mid-Career Management Development Programme conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV). The academic exposure tour was designed to offer the visiting researchers comprehensive, first-hand insights into the day-to-day operations, advanced logistics systems, physical infrastructure, and strategic economic importance of one of India’s premier major ports. Senior port officials conducted an extensive briefing session on the administrative and technical functioning of the facility. The presentations focused on core activities, including bulk cargo handling, import and export mechanisms, efficient supply chain logistics, and overall cargo movement through the harbour. The itinerary also featured an interactive session where port management addressed specific queries from the researchers concerning port engineering, infrastructure development projects, and the critical role modern maritime hubs play in accelerating India’s broader trade and economic growth.
