Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R. Mutharasan on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) welcomed several measures announced by the new State government and urged it to fulfil its election promise of completely waiving crop loans taken by farmers.
Mr. Mutharasan was speaking to reporters after participating in the CPI’s nation-wide campaign against the BJP-led Union government.
As part of the campaign, the party conducted a padayatra through Panamarathupatti, Seelanaickenpatti, and Suramangalam.
However, the government should completely waive crop loans as promised in its election manifesto.
On the Cauvery water dispute, Mr. Mutharasan said the State government should take steps to build consensus among the States concerned.
