A group of around 20 motorbikers from different parts of Maharashtra and some other states had arrived in Raipur earlier and was travelling towards the Bastar region when the accident occurred, he said. Thakkar was riding a Bajaj Avenger when her motorcycle was hit by the unidentified heavy vehicle, leaving her seriously injured, particularly in the legs, the official said. The vehicle fled the scene after the accident, which took place around 90km away from the state capital Raipur, and efforts were underway to trace it and the driver, he stated. Thakkar's fellow motorbikers contacted the police helpline Dial 112, following which she was rushed in an emergency response vehicle to the Charama Community Health Centre in neighbouring Kanker district, the official said. Considering the woman's critical condition, she was later referred to a private hospital in Dhamtari district, where she succumbed to injuries during treatment, he said.
