Indian Railways is expanding the deployment of its indigenous automatic train protection technology across another major railway division, strengthening safety systems on routes that are yet to be covered by Kavach.
The Ministry of Railways on Wednesday (12 August) said it has approved the provision of Kavach Version 4.0 across 660 route km of the Izzatnagar Division of North Eastern Railway (NER) at an estimated cost of Rs 295 crore.
The project has been sanctioned under the umbrella work titled “Provision of Kavach with communication backbone of Long-Term Evolution (LTE) on balance sections of Indian Railways.”
The approved deployment will cover the balance sections of the Izzatnagar Division, extending Kavach Version 4.0 to railway stretches identified for strengthening of safety infrastructure.
Kavach is Indian Railways’ indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.
