Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani was hearing a suit brought by content creator Mohit Kumar, who alleged that certain persons downloaded his videos and then used their access to the Meta Rights Manager to assert copyright over them. Kumar submitted that he was in no position to stake a similar claim because the platform had never granted him access to the tool. It is like giving the key to the robber and not to the owner of the house," Justice Bhambhani remarked. He contended that bogus copyright strikes can lead to a legitimate creator losing an account overnight, destroying years of effort along with monetisation, brand tie-ups and business prospects. The order follows the court's decision days earlier to take up, also on 24 September, the question of whether platforms may suspend or delete accounts purely on the strength of copyright strikes.
