July retail inflation marginally rises to 4.45% on higher food prices

India’s retail inflation rose marginally to 4.45 per cent in July, from 4.38 per cent in June, as food prices increased, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Wednesday.
Rural food inflation stood at 5.79 per cent, while urban food inflation was 5.05 per cent.
Ginger inflation rose to 83.62 per cent from 50.41 per cent in June, while garlic inflation increased to 35.36 per cent from 17.93 per cent.
The wider gap between rural and urban inflation reflects the stronger increase in food prices faced by rural consumers.
Delhi recorded combined inflation of 2.68 per cent, while Maharashtra's inflation stood at 4.09 per cent.
