The agitation by job aspirants over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations entered its 19th day on Wednesday, with protesters vowing to intensify their stir until their demands are met. Students claimed the sheet showed that only a fraction of the questions had been answered correctly, yet the candidate had qualified. For thousands of young people across Jharkhand, however, the controversy was never just about one examination. Allegations involving the earliest JPSC examinations after Jharkhand became a separate State in 2000 were investigated by the CBI. In Jharkhand, they say, a government job is often the only realistic path to economic mobility.
