Avani credits her father, Indian photographer and photojournalist Raghu Rai, for bestowing this project upon her after his passing in April. For Raghu Rai, it was a project he wouldn’t have traditionally done, but “every time someone interpreted India, he wanted to grab it”. Embracing the clichésSandsbø, right out of the gate, admits he has no right to photograph India or represent it. As a long-time fan of the country and of Raghu Rai himself, Sandsbø isn’t interested in competing to depict the complexities of India. “The imagery that he [Raghu Rai] has captured over the last six decades can only be photographed in the streets.
