There is something faintly ironic about writing the biography of a forgotten industrialist and then watching a film about another pioneering industrialist become a talking point. The first was Cementing Legacies, my biography of SNN Sankaralinga Iyer (SNN), founder of India Cements and the Indo-Commercial Bank. The second has been the recent release of G.D.N., the Tamil biographical drama on inventor and industrialist GD Naidu, played by R Madhavan. If someone like me did not know his story, what could one reasonably expect the average reader to know? Otherwise, once the people who remember have gone, even facts can become folklore.
