The Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Punjab, is set to roll out its first rake comprising 19 LHB broad-gauge passenger coaches for Bangladesh Railway today (12 August), marking a significant milestone in bilateral railway cooperation.
The coaches feature several pioneering design modifications developed specifically for LHB-type coaches.
The coaches feature reclining chairs with stainless-steel armrests and footrests, CCTV surveillance, passenger alarm systems, partially openable windows, baby care and prayer rooms.
The project, financed by the European Investment Bank, will see the new coaches being added to the ageing Bangladesh Railway fleet between June 2026 and December 2027.
The partnership between RCF Kapurthala and Bangladesh Railway dates back to 2015-16, when the factory successfully supplied 120 LHB broad-gauge passenger coaches to the neighbouring country.
