The Delhi Assembly on Tuesday passed a Bill to repeal the existing law governing the functioning of bed-and-breakfast (B&B) facilities nearly two months after a fire at one such facility in Malviya Nagar killed 23 people, including several foreigners. Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who tabled the Bill, said the government will bring a new law to govern B&Bs. It proposes a self-certification and self-renewal framework with “deemed approval” within seven working days, down from 30 days in the 2007 law. The Assembly passed three other Bills. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (Amendment) Bill, 2026 Bill revises the cut-off date for a cluster to be considered a slum for rehabilitation from January 1, 2006 to January 1, 2026.
