A fisherman, who went to sea from the Mandapam fishing harbour near Rameswaram, died after collapsing in his boat. Over a hundred mechanised fishing boats obtained fishing permission tokens and went to sea from the Mandapam fishing harbour on Monday. While the fishermen were fishing in the Palk Strait sea area, a fisherman named Ramu, 63, hailing from the Servakkaran Oorani area near Uchippuli, suddenly collapsed inside the boat due to chest pain and died. Immediately, fellow fishermen turned the boat back toward the shore and brought it to the Mandapam fishing harbour early Tuesday. Upon taking Ramu’s body to the Mandapam Government Hospital, doctors examined him and declared that he had already passed away.
