BENGALURU: A special team constituted to inspect the quality, safety, storage, labelling and food handling practices at the main kitchens/food preparation units of the Indira Canteens run by the State Government to provide food items at subsidised rates to customers came across violations such as non-compliance to the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The violations included misbranding, unhygienic food handling conditions and other violations of FSSAI requirements and subsequently the warehouse of the Indira Canteens at Gottigere was sealed due to unhygienic food handling and storage conditions. The inspected main kitchens/food preparation units at Gottigere, Lingarajapuram and Singasandra in Bengaluru Urban district. The inspections were conducted as per the directions of the Minister of Health and Family Welfare U.T. The Food and Safety and Drug Administration Department will continue to undertake such special inspection drives to ensure that the public is provided with safe, wholesome, hygienic and quality food items.
