Coimbatore Corporation Ward 44 councillor R. Gayathri, along with a group of residents from her ward, staged a protest outside the Corporation office on Tuesday against her suspension from two council meetings. The suspension was ordered by Coimbatore Corporation Mayor R. Ranganayaki at the previous council meeting, citing alleged misconduct by Ms. Gayathri during the meeting. Ms. Gayathri had raised questions during the July 17 council meeting regarding the alleged ₹40-crore irregularities in the construction of the Semmozhi Poonga. On Tuesday, Ms. Gayathri and the residents displayed photographs purportedly showing her being pulled by women councillors during the council meeting. They demanded that the suspension order be revoked.
