Arrivals to Sicily's international airport in Catania, a top Italian tourist destination, remained suspended on Tuesday due to ongoing ash emissions from Mount Etna. “Due to Etna’s eruptive activity and current wind conditions, the closure of Sector C1 has been extended and arrivals are suspended until 7:00 PM”, the airport said in a statement. "Passengers are kindly advised to check the status of their flight with their airline before heading to the airport. Travellers flying into Catania have faced disruption since Saturday, when an ash cloud forced the airport to close to arrivals. Around 12 million passengers transited in 2024 through Catania International Airport, which services the eastern part of Sicily, one of Italy's most popular tourist destinations.
