The state government has approved implementation of the group accidentinsurance scheme (GAIS) for 4.21 lakh registered fishermen for the 2026-27financial year, with the Centre and state sharing the insurance premium in a60:40 ratio. The scheme would cover 4,21,767 registered fishermen in the18-70 age group. Fishermen suffering permanent partialdisability would be eligible for `2.5 lakh, while those requiringhospitalisation due to an accident would be entitled to medical assistanceof up to `25,000. He said the scheme was aimed atstanding by fishermen's families during times of distress and providing themwith financial security for the future. Thegovernment, he said, was continuously working to provide comprehensivesocial security and financial protection to registered fishermen and theirfamilies across Telangana.
