A Parliamentary Standing Committee has asked the Railway Ministry to step up efforts to develop Indian-made components for bullet trains and expand specialised training using international expertise, as India prepares to build a wider high-speed rail network. The panel welcomed the Railways' decision to develop the B28, an indigenous high-speed train with a design speed of 280 kmph. The train is expected to enter service on the 97 km Surat-Vapi section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor in August 2027. The committee sought details on measures to accelerate the localisation of high-speed rail technology, including manufacturing capabilities for key components. It also asked the ministry to expand training at the High-Speed Rail Training Institute in Vadodara by making greater use of expertise from countries with established high-speed networks.
