West Bengal has identified two government-owned land parcels in Nadia and Paschim Burdwan for industrial parks under the Centre’s Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojona (Bhavya), as the state steps up efforts to attract fresh industrial investment and prepares a new industrial policy. The state has shortlisted 118.5 acres at Dhubulia in Nadia and about 148.6 acres at Hirapur near Asansol in Paschim Burdwan. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited (WBIDCL) will act as the state’s nodal agency for implementing the scheme. State Commerce and Industries Minister Tapas Roy said Bengal would submit its proposal this month after resolving the land availability issue. He said Bengal plans to submit its proposal this month after an earlier delay caused by the lack of suitable government land.
