The Indian Polo Association (IPA), which runs the 15.20-acre Jaipur Polo Ground situated in the heart of Lutyens' Delhi, on Monday (10 August) pulled back its petition that had sought the appointment of an arbitrator to settle its land dispute with the Centre. In its place, the IPA is now pressing for the allotment of "at least" 500 acres within the national capital as a substitute for the Jaipur Polo Ground. The plot had been gifted by the former Maharaja of Jaipur to the Delhi Polo Club around 1930 and was leased to the club in 1951 for two decades. After the Delhi Polo Club was wound up in 1983, the property passed to the IPA. Its counsel, Major Nirvikar Singh, said, "In public interest, and pursuant to representation to the MoHUA, the IPA… will not pursue Jaipur Polo Ground and will instead pursue alternate land in NCT for equestrian sports."
