Visakhapatnam:Around three lakh residents of Arilova Colony are facing a drinking water crisis, with residents and environmentalists alleging that deep borewells dug by hospitals in the Health City have affected groundwater availability in the area.
“Our water problems began five years ago when the Health City hospitals started functioning in our locality.
Even the six hospitals with bulk water connections had also dug deep borewells and were drawing groundwater, he added.
Murthy Yadav said each hospital in Health City had more than one deep borewell.
Environmentalists alleged that construction of Health City in catchment areas had blocked streams from the hills that recharge the Mudasarlova Reservoir, a major source of water supply to the city.
