Bombay, August 9: The Bombay Customs to-day made a big haul of watches seizing 12 gunny bag loads of it from the rocky terrain adjoining the light house at Khar-Danda near the northern suburb of Bandra.
The watches, both ladies and gents, were neatly packed in lots of 1,200 or 500 depending on their sizes in water-proof cellophane bags which were hidden in the gunny bags found ashore by the Marine and Preventive section of the Customs Collectorate.
Wadhawan, Collector of Customs (Preventive), said the bags contained as many as 13,500 pieces, totally valued “at a little over Rs.
Mr. Wadhawan described it as “the biggest of the season” since July is a lean month for contraband because smuggling by sea during monsoon is rendered difficult by gusty winds and high waves.
It would be very risky for the dhows to make the trip from West Asia to Bombay shores, it was stated.
