Itunu Onadeko, the fiancé of Tope Osoba, has claimed that
the actress died at a police station in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Osoba’s death was announced on Wednesday, nearly two years
after she underwent surgery for breast cancer in November 2024.
However, in the days following her passing, rumours surfaced
suggesting she died from emotional distress rather than cancer, alongside
allegations of domestic abuse against Onadeko.
In an interview with Celestial Reality Check, Onadeko, a
lead shepherd at the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Onibuore Cathedral in
Ibeju-Lekki, provided his account of the events leading to her death.
He stated that Osoba had informed him of her intention to
visit her aunt in Ikorodu. He said that after several unsuccessful attempts to
reach her by phone, a stranger called him to report that she had died at a
police station.
Onadeko said he could not confirm the caller’s identity and
was unable to determine the exact cause of her death at the facility.
He also addressed financial allegations levelled against
him, saying they supported each other financially.
“I do not know about N50 million. When we were living
together, we gave each other money. Eventually, she sold the gold jewellery she
bought for both of us. She was living with her uncle before. She later gave the
uncle N1 million,” he said.
“Her aunty Kehinde Osoba owns a church around Igbogbo. The
woman called and said she also wanted to see me. On Tuesday morning, when they
said they were going, I told them to leave without me because I had a church
programme. I told them I would travel two days later. The woman said they had
adopted her.
“When they got to Victoria Island, I called them because her
own number was not going through. After a while, I called, but they did not
pick up, and I later left them to it. Around 7 pm, I saw that she posted. It
was not until midnight that I heard that she died at the police station. A
random person called me to say that she died at a police station in Ikorodu.”
Allegations of drug addiction
Onadeko also claimed that Osoba struggled with addiction to
hard drugs, specifically a substance known locally as kolos.
He alleged that she had run away from home on four occasions
during their two-year relationship and that he had tried, unsuccessfully, to
discourage her from using drugs.
He also described previous incidents in which she left home
without notice, including one instance where she travelled to Iperu without
informing him.
Onadeko said some of these disappearances were not formally
reported to police because she was a public figure.
“She has been doing this for over a year. I told her to stop
it. She does it openly. The drug is called kolos. Her friends also know. Many
people around her used to complain about it. I never took her to rehab because
I did not have the money at the time. The only thing I did was talk to her. I
felt she needed advice. I used to report her to her aunty,” he said.
“She said she wanted to bring the hairdresser into acting.
She told me she was going to Iperu. She did not tell me when she got to Iperu
until days later. She has often run away from home.
“The first time she ran away from home, it was not
documented at the police station because I was told she is a celebrity. I later
found her with one of her siblings. She left home about four times in the two
years that we were together.”
