It is Baishe Srabon again, the date on the Bengali calendar when Rabindranath Tagore passed away at the age of 80. A new edition of Rabindranath Tagore: The Myriad-Minded Man by Krishna Dutta and Andrew Robinson includes many fraught episodes of the poet’s life, along with his numerous triumphs, both as an artist and a thinker. But he was soon put off by the quality of Tagore’s English and his attempts to labour too much in that language. Reading Tagore’s life only makes you want to return to the originals throughout the process. Rabindranath Tagore: The Myriad-Minded Man, Krishna Dutta and Andrew Robinson, Rupa Publications
