The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district have filed a case against a Muslim cleric for allegedly making derogatory remarks about kanwariyas, PTI reported. “Can those who assault police personnel in uniform be called Shiva devotees?” “Can those who smash the windows of a school van and injure children be called Shiva devotees?” On August 3, a group of kanwariyas who were travelling on motorcycles had allegedly attacked a school van in Lucknow after a minor accident. The dispute prompted some of the kanwariyas to allegedly damage the van’s rear windshield and side mirror, before they fled.
