As a lecturer in journalism, sometimes I have students working on stories that require anonymous sources. In those cases, I have a series of very strict rules they must adhere to before being allowed to continue with the story:The source needs a legitimate reason for being granted anonymity. “I’m shy” does not make the cut. There must be a genuine public interest in publishing the information and a credible risk attached to putting their name to it. I need to verify the source is who they say they are.
