The Karnataka government is planning to establish a Karnataka Urban Policing Innovation Centre (KUPIC) to strengthen urban policing through technology, research and innovation, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Thursday. The proposed centre will focus on research, innovation and technology development to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of urban policing. The centre will prioritise the development of technology-driven solutions for smart surveillance, efficient traffic management, crime prevention, public safety and other emerging challenges faced by rapidly growing urban centres. The policing system must modernise accordingly. By creating an institutional framework that promotes continuous research and innovation, our goal is to build an urban policing system that is more efficient, responsive and citizen-centric,” Mr. Kharge said.
