MANILA, Philippines — South Korea conferred Ambassador for Peace Medals on Filipino veterans who served in the Korean War, as it expressed gratitude to the soldiers for helping shape their nation’s peace and freedom.
Kwon referred to Erenio and Manuel as “my friends,” having met them on March 4 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani during the state visit of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
He noted that the international solidarity shown during the Korean War became the foundation of South Korea’s current prosperity.
The event was preceded by a National Ceremony held at the KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul where Philippine Army Captain Conrado Yap, killed in action, was honored as a Distinguished Hero of the Korean War.
