The death has occurred of the father of the late singer-songwriter Shane MacGowan following a “short illness.” A death notice on Rip.ie reads that Maurice MacGowan died peacefully and surrounded by family on August 3rd whilst in the care of staff at University Hospital Limerick. AdvertisementMacGowan was predeceased by his “beloved wife Therese and cherished son Shane. “ Therese MacGowan, 87, was killed when the car she was driving struck a wall in Ballintoher near her home in Silvermines on New Year’s Day in 2017. Shane MacGowan, who was the former frontman of The Pogues, died on November 30th, 2023.
