National Handloom Day to be observed in Erode on August 7

The Erode District Handlooms Department will organise a series of programmes on August 7 to mark the 12th National Handloom Day.
Collector S. Kandasamy in a release said the National Handloom Day is observed every year to commemorate the launch of the Swadeshi Movement on August 7, 1905, and to highlight the contribution of the handloom sector to the country’s socio-economic development, while recognising the role of handloom weavers.
The first National Handloom Day was celebrated in Chennai on August 7, 2015.
A special handloom exhibition-cum-sale will be held at the District Collectorate on August 7 and 8.
Arts and Science College, Thindal, will also be held on August 7 to promote handloom products.
