Senior journalist Nakkeeran Gopal has been booked by the Cyber Crime Wing of the Greater Chennai Police for allegedly making critical remarks about the Karur stampede. Mr. Gopal is the editor and publisher of the Tamil political investigative magazine Nakkheeran. The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by an individual named Nandakumar, who alleged that Mr. Gopal made remarks that could disturb public peace during a debate on the Karur stampede on a YouTube channel. It may be recalled that on September 27, 2025, at least 41 people were killed and around 100 others injured in a stampede during a political rally in Karur.
