New Radicals, the legendary one-hit-wonders whose frontman, Gregg Alexander, went on to write “Murder on the Dancefloor,” are back with their first original song in nearly three decades. The bucket-hatted bandleader wrote “One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)” for the soundtrack to One Night Only, a rom-com starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner that comes out this week. The band reunited in 2021 to perform at President Biden’s inauguration, and regrouped again in 2024 to record their own version of “Murder on the Dancefloor.” That version was dedicated to second gentleman Doug Emhoff, who had used the song as walk-on music at rallies.
