The Surya river has been a part of our lives ever since 2004, when my husband Ravi began to farm a plot of land in Dahanu in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The flood Standard Operating Procedure for Dhamni dam had marked residents of 17 villages downstream to be shifted in case of heavy rain. Newspapers reported that 200 villages in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of Palghar district had been cut off and 800-odd people were evacuated so I also sought information about this.
