The Allahabad High Court has said that if women voluntarily convert to Islam and marry persons of their choice, nobody, including their father, could interfere with the decision, reported The Indian Express on Saturday. The court was hearing a petition by two sisters, aged 20 and 35, on July 30. Through their counsel, they told Justice Sandeep Jain that they had voluntarily converted from Hinduism to Islam and decided to marry as per their own wishes, which was their fundamental right, reported The Hindu. Jain ordered the Uttar Pradesh police and the father of the two women to produce them before the court on August 6. The affidavit should also detail the steps the police took to secure the women’s production.
