The Hyderabad Police has registered cases against technology firm Meta’s India head, and several Facebook and Instagram accounts over purportedly objectionable videos and photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on the two social media platforms during the youth protests, The Indian Express reported on Friday. The police in Congress-ruled Telangana have invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. One of the complainants, T Saikiran Goud, a member of the Telangana BJP’s social media core committee, alleged that about 20 Facebook and Instagram accounts had posted morphed content about the prime minister, The Times of India reported. Another BJP supporter alleged that several Instagram accounts had shared “obscene” videos and images, The Indian Express reported. Delhi Police’s FIR against XThe FIR in Hyderabad came two days after the Delhi Police registered a case against X for allegedly objectionable and defamatory posts about Modi on the social media platform.
