Ferozepur, a garrison border town in Punjab abutting the present-day India-Pakistan border, hosted the first edition of the Ferozepur Heritage, Military, and Literary Festival earlier this year – the result of a collaboration between The Military Literature Festival Association, Chandigarh, the Golden Arrow Division and the Ferozepur Literati Association.
The Festival aimed to raise awareness about the rich heritage of the region, promote tourism, and showcase the glorious legacy of the Indian Armed Forces.
Owing to its strategic position – near the northwestern border, its involvement in many of the geopolitical conflicts down the ages has been inevitable.
This fort-like engineering marvel was once a broad-gauge railway lifeline from Lahore, across the river Sutlej to Ferozepur.
It was, then, only befitting that the inaugural edition of the festival began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Barki War Memorial.
