The Centre has opposed a plea before the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on eviction proceedings against the Delhi Gymkhana Club, contending that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application. The dispute stems from the Centre’s decision in May to terminate the Delhi Gymkhana Club’s perpetual lease, stating that the land is required for defence infrastructure and other security purposes. Mr. Khurana and the club’s Staff Welfare Association have challenged the move before the High Court. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Mr. Khurana, submitted that the Centre’s reply had been served late on Monday night, and sought time to file a rejoinder. The court granted the request and listed the matter for September 3.
