Federal health officials have identified a new cyclospora outbreak stemming from an unspecified product, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Thursday. Cooking can kill the parasite, but health officials say just washing fruits and vegetables is not enough. So far the CDC has confirmed 1,947 illnesses linked to the iceberg lettuce-related outbreak from June 22 through July 20. Michigan health officials said Thursday that there are 7,664 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis in that state alone, CBS News Detroit reported.
