The Water Resources Department has begun work on restoration of the Thalavanur anicut across the Thenpennai River between Enathimangalam and Thalavanur. The anicut is 480 metres long and 2.30 metres in height and is sandwiched between Cuddalore and Villupuram districts. It has six vents — three each in Enathimangalam on the Cuddalore side and three at Thalavanur on the Villupuram side. Puram and Chettipattarai tanks in Panurti in Cuddalore district. The anicut plays a crucial role in irrigating 855.58 hectares of farmland, in seven villages in Villupuram and Cuddalore districts.
