The Mattanchery police have arrested a Maharashtra native in connection with a cyber financial fraud in which a 59-year-old woman allegedly lost ₹2.88 crore.
The accused, Santhosh, 50, of Fulchur, was taken into custody from Mumbai, the police said.
The case was registered on September 6, 2025, on the basis of a complaint filed by Usha Kumary K., a resident of Mattanchery.
The complainant alleged that she was duped by a group of fraudsters who contacted her through a WhatsApp video call and convinced her that she was placed under ‘virtual arrest’ as part of the investigation into money laundering and cryptocurrency fraud.
