GuwahatiThe Government of Manipur has intensified efforts to resettle more than 40,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) by March, the State’s Chief Secretary, Puneet Kumar Goel, said on Thursday (January 29, 2026).
They belong to some 10,000 families displaced since the ethnic conflict between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities broke out on May 3, 2023.
Mr. Goel said the government has rehabilitated over 3,700 families, comprising 16,500 people, to date.
“Our priority is a secure and sustainable return to normal life for IDPs,” Mr. Goel said.
By December 2025, more than 2,200 families, around 10,000 IDPs, had been resettled.
