Cultivation of dragon fruit has found its place among farmers in Karur district. The cultivation of the fruit, which is valued for its rich antioxidant content, is limited to a few places in the State. With the intention of promoting the cultivation of the fruit, the State government came up with a subsidy scheme a few years ago. Nine hectares had so far been brought under dragon fruit cultivation in the district. Farmers could make use of the subsidy scheme for raising the crop.
