Kollam Vigilance Court on Thursday granted conditional bail to former administrative officer S. Sreekumar in the case involving theft of gold from dwarapalka idol at Sabarimala Temple. Mohit granted bail to Sreekumar, who is the sixth accused in the case, 43 days after his arrest. The prosecution had opposed the bail plea, arguing that releasing the accused at a crucial stage of the investigation would hinder the progress of the case. However, with the court granting bail, Sreekumar is the second person to be released from jail in the Sabarimala gold theft case after former administrative officer Murari Babu. Sankaradas, who was a member of the Devaswom Board at the time of the gold theft, was produced in court in a wheelchair due to physical ailments.
