Madurai district police have set up a Measuring Capturing Unit for biometric data collection of accused, suspects and convicts.
“This would strengthen scientific and evidence-based policing,” said Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Vijayendra Bidari.
This authorises police to collect biometric data, including fingerprints, palm impressions, foot impressions, photographs, iris scans and behavioural data like signatures from arrested persons, suspects, or convicts.
It would enable efficient, uniform and high-quality collection of biometric data along with phograph.
Mr. Bidari inspected the facility along with Deputy Inspector General of Police (Madurai range)Abhinav Kumar and Superintendent of Police B. K. Arvind.
