The Ontario government is investing more than $700,000 over two years to support mobile crisis response teams at the OPP detachments in West Parry Sound, the Almaguin Highlands and Bracebridge. Officials say the funding will enable police to work with trained crisis workers to provide specialized support often needed when interacting with people experiencing a mental-health crisis. “Securing funding for the Mobile Crisis Response Team in West Parry Sound is a significant step forward in supporting our community’s mental health and wellness. This investment will allow us to build a stronger partnership with CMHA to respond more effectively and compassionately to individuals in crisis, ensuring they receive the care and support they need,” said Helena Wall, West Parry Sound OPP Detachment Commander. Over the next two years, 36 police services and OPP detachments will be receiving $9 million to increase the capacity of their mobile crisis response units.
