The new third-generation model is due out later this year, likely as a 2026 model for the U.S., and Mazda has confirmed that it's coming with at least one hybrid option.
The prototypes reveal Mazda is taking an evolutionary approach to the design of the new CX-5.
The current CX-5 is offered in the U.S. with the choice of a 187-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 227-hp 2.5-liter turbo-4.
Mazda at the time also mentioned a new Skyactiv-Z family of 4-cylinder engines that is being developed for launch in 2027.
Mazda sold a record 424,382 vehicles in the U.S. in 2024, with the bulk of those being the CX-5.
