Rivian's chief software officer, Wassym Bensaid, took to X to announce the availability of over-the-air upgrades that add power and range to certain versions of the R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck. When purchasing an R1S or R1T, selecting the Dual-Motor Performance powertrain over the standard Dual-Motor powertrain typically carries a $5,000 premium. Bensaid confirmed that the upgrade will be available for vehicles equipped with the Standard+, Large, Large+, and Max battery packs. However, models with the base Standard Pack battery will not receive the upgrade, as he explained that its LFP chemistry "can't reach the same levels of performance." Bensaid did not disclose how much Rivian plans to charge owners of vehicles with the Large+ battery to unlock the additional capacity.
