The legendary American container brand, Tupperware, has staged a comeback in South Africa, although this time with a new name: TuppAfrica. Last year, the Florida-based giant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and bailed on South Africa as part of a global shake-up. The brand’s new owners decided to focus on just eight markets, and South Africa and Australia unfortunately didn’t make the cut. “As a result, its wholly owned subsidiary in Southern Africa had its license terminated, which meant Tupperware Southern Africa had to go into voluntary liquidation.”That liquidation turned into an opportunity. “Tupperware has been in Southern Africa for over 65 years.”And those famous Tupperware parties are not just nostalgia.
