News24 just reported that almost eight million South Africans have cryptocurrency, but only about 500,000 are declaring their crypto gains to the South African Revenue Service. In this case, SARS is making it clear that if you thought your crypto stash was invisible to their radar, think again. SARS insists most taxpayers are straight shooters who just want a little clarity, so the service is polishing up its user-friendly face. Commissioner Edward Kieswetter said: “SARS has been working ceaselessly to ensure compliance by all taxpayers, and those who are evading their responsibility make the burden of compliance difficult for compliant taxpayers.
